Saskatoon police say a 15-year-old girl was set on fire in an attack at a local high school

A 15-year-old girl was set on fire in an attack at Evan Hardy Collegiate in Saskatoon on Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to police, emergency calls came in around 12:30 p.m. about an assault and fire at the school.

A school resource officer (SRO), who was already on the scene for another case, was able to immediately arrest the 14-year-old female suspect.

The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police said a teacher was injured when he tried to intervene.

The SRO will continue to work closely with the school administrators as the investigation continues.

Saskatoon Police Sergeant Ken Kane held a press conference at SPS headquarters Thursday afternoon to share what police know so far about the incident.
