John Kerry’s fireside chat at Salve, ‘Secret Mall Apartment’ to be screened at The Elms

It’s going to be a busy day in Newport.

Salve Regina University hosts The Forum at Newport 2024, a conference on the geostrategic and national security challenges and opportunities presented by climate change, including an informal conversation with former Secretary of State John Kerry.

American Senators Jack Reed And Sheldon White House and Minister of the Navy Carlos Del Toro are also expected to speak at the conference this afternoon. You can register here for free to attend, but if you can’t make it, my colleague Ed Fitzpatrick have full coverage.

If you’re looking for a night out in Newport, be sure to stop by the Elms for a screening of ‘Secret Mall Apartment’ by newportFILM, a documentary about the group of artists who lived in the Providence Place shopping center for four years in the early 2000s.

The screening starts at 7:20pm and afterwards I will moderate a panel discussion with the director Jeremy Workman, producer Matthew Spainand film subject Michael Townsend (and possibly other special guests) about their project and what it was like to live in the shopping center.

If you have any questions for the panelists, please send them to me.

Tickets for the screening and panel discussion are free, but a $10 donation is suggested. You can register here.

If neither event interests you, it’s still 70 degrees and sunny, and most of the tourists are gone. Just go to Newport for a nice day!
