CFL Fantasy Projections: Dohnte Meyers to headline receivers

CFL Fantasy Projections: Dohnte Meyers to headline receivers

Week 14 of CFL fantasy play promises to be an open contest, as Saturday features a high-scoring triple-header that’s exactly what fantasy players want to hear.

BC’s Week 14 matchup between Montreal and Montreal on Friday may not be the Grey Cup final it looked like it would be earlier this season, but the potential fireworks between Nathan Rourke and Cody Fajardo make this a must-watch game.

Quarterbacks

1. Trevor Harris, Saskatchewan, $11,700 salary (20.2 expected fantasy points): After a season-high 34.7 fantasy points in Week 13, Harris will be hoping for a fourth game with at least 300 yards and two passing majors when the Riders play the Blue Bombers in the rematch.

2. Cody Fajardo, Montreal, $13,200 salary (19.1 PFP): Like Harris, Fajardo has lit up secondaries when healthy, and he faces the Lions looking to complete a third game of at least 300 yards and two touchdown passes.

3. Nathan Rourke, BC, $8,000 salary (13.1 PFP): We finally got the 2022 version of Rourke as he made Touchdown Pacific his playground with 31.9 FP. He may have been drafted higher, but the challenge of pitching against a Montreal defense that allows 249.5 passing yards per game tempers lofty expectations.

4. McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Edmonton, $10,000 salary (15.1 PFP): While the Elks’ running game has been key to the team’s revival, McBeth has thrown multiple touchdown passes in three straight games and will once again have a chance to crush Calgary’s defense, completing 71.8 percent of his passes.

5. Dru Brown, Ottawa, salary $11,700 (12.8 PFP): One way to recover from a tough game is to take on Toronto’s defense, which has allowed 19 touchdown passes and an opposing pass efficiency rating of 103.3.

Backrunners

1. Brady Oliveira, Winnipeg, salary $12,600 (14.3 PFP): Oliveira’s eight-game streak of double-digit fantasy production ended in Week 13. With Zach Collaros ($12,000) out for the rematch against the Roughriders, expect the league’s leading rusher to get closer to the 1,000-yard mark.

2. Walter Fletcher, Montreal, salary $11,300 (15.5 PFP): The unsung hero of the Alouettes offense, Fletcher has averaged at least 15.9 FP in three of his last four games and at least 11.9 FP in four of his previous five games. Now that’s the kind of consistency fantasy players want from their backfield.

3. Ka’Deem Carey, Toronto, $11,300 salary (13.8 PFP): Carey’s two-game slump should now be over as the Argos appear to have found a balance between a strong run and pass approach.

4. Javon Leake, Edmonton, salary $8,000 (14.3 PFP): That could easily be Kevin Brown ($8,500), but Leake’s ability to crack defenses (6.4 yards per attempt) gives him a slight edge over his partner in ground penalties.

5. Kylin Hill, Calgary, salary $3,500 (10 PFP): The Stampeders may have seen the future of their backfield after Hill threw 19.9 FP in his second game. His ability to create chaos after the catch gives fantasy players a bargain-basement version of William Fletcher.

6. Frankie Hickson, Saskatchewan, salary $4,200 (9.4 PFP): The addition of Hickson will take the pressure off Trevor Harris to keep the Riders in the race for the West Division title.

Receivers

1. Dohnte Meyers, Saskatchewan, salary $4,000 (14.6 PFP): Meyers averages 16.2 FP per game and his 87.3 yards per game would lead the league if he qualified in the category. Oh, and he’s pretty cheap. What else do you need to know?

2. Tevin Jones, Edmonton, salary $7,500 (19.8 PFP): Jones has us running to the CFL Guide and Record Book, as his 27.5 yards per catch is nearly as high as former Stampeders legend Rupe Andrews’ record of 28.3 yards per catch set in 1954. It also makes us wonder how much Andrews’ salary would have been.

3. Justin McInnis, BC, $9,600 salary (15.5 PFP): Things seem normal now that McInnis has scored double-digit fantasy points in consecutive games. His appetite for the big play will be challenged, however, by a Montreal pass defense that has allowed just five completions of 30-plus yards.

4. Reggie Begelton, Calgary, salary $12,300 (13.9 PFP): Begelton has averaged 17 FP in his last four games by creating yards after the catch. He is one of eight receivers with at least 200 YAC and continues to improve his deep yards per route.

5. Justin Hardy, Ottawa, salary $10,700 (14.2 PFP): Currently in a slump, Hardy has scored single-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games. He’s still ranked high because the REDBLACKS’ passing game is going the way he is.

6. Charleston Rambo, Montreal, $6,000 salary (14.3 PFP): Austin Mack’s return in Week 13 resulted in just four targets for Rambo, who still scored double figures in a fourth straight game. He’s still worth starting, but watch his target count.

7. Austin Mack, Montreal, salary $9,200 (9.2 PFP): The familiarity between him and Cody Fajardo means Mack will be a factor against BC’s defense, which allows an astonishing 73.5 percent pass completion rate.

8. Damonte Coxie, Toronto, salary $10,300 (11 PFP): Coxie is another receiver on the rise, having scored 28.9 FP in his last two games and still being the Argos’ top fantasy receiver option.

9. KeeSean Johnson, Saskatchewan, salary $2,500 (13.8 PFP): Together with Meyers, fantasy players can achieve top performance for the low price of $6,500.

10. Ontario Wilson, Winnipeg, salary $8,600 (13.8 PFP): Be careful when it comes to Wilson or any Blue Bombers receiver. If Chris Streveler gets the start as the pivot, the offense’s potential for a big play will be limited.

11. Eugene Lewis, Edmonton, salary $11,000 (13 PFP): The connection between him and McLeod Bethel-Thompson is good, as Lewis scores at least 11.6 FP for the fourth straight game.

12. Jalen Philpot, Calgary, salary $7,500 (7.8 PFP): Philpot has caught at least four passes in five of his last six games and continues to assert himself in the Stamps’ passing game. A breakout performance appears imminent.

Defenses

1. Winnipeg, salary $9,000 (8.1 PFP): The Bombers have scored at least nine points in four consecutive games and are still the best unit for your team lineup.

2. Edmonton, salary $8,400 (5.3 PFP): Ignore the projection. The Elks’ ballhawks have intercepted seven passes in the last three games, making the airways dangerous.

3. Toronto, $8,300 salary (8.4 PFP): Week 13 marked only the third time this season that the Argos went without an interception. Don’t expect that to happen again.

4. Montreal, salary $10,000 (5.3 PFP): The Als aren’t the unit they were earlier in the season, but that doesn’t mean they can’t easily bounce back into form.
