Police are looking for a suspect in a violent and random physical attack on an 84-year-old woman in northeast Edmonton last week.

The attack took place around 2:45 p.m. on May 13, police said in a press release on Thursday.

“The female complainant was reportedly watering the front yard of (her) townhome near 134th Avenue and 40th Street when the suspect approached her on foot, punched her in the face and kicked her repeatedly after she fell to the ground” , the police said. said.

The suspect fled on foot, police said.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for an obese man in his 20s or 30s, 1.68 to 1.75 meters tall. He was wearing a black windbreaker, black or very dark blue jeans, white running shoes and a dark baseball cap.

“The violent and random nature of this attack on an elderly citizen is unusual and disturbing,” said Det. Sonja Wepruk in the press release.

Hoping to get tips, police released video footage of the suspect, recorded just before the attack.
