The heavy thunderstorms in the Waterloo region have ended

The severe thunderstorm warning for the Waterloo region has ended.

Environment Canada initially issued the thunderstorm warning just before noon Saturday, with the possibility of high winds and heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening.

The conditions for that watch never materialized, but the weather service also warned of wind gusts that could have reached 60 mph, with the potential for heavy rain and the risk of a tornado.

The weather forecast for Sunday includes cloudy skies, a 40 percent chance of drizzle or rain in the morning and early afternoon. High 17.
