Fake voter guides land in the mailboxes of Republican voters in St. Johns County just before early voting

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Republican Party has urged Republican voters to double-check their voter guides before heading to the polls Saturday for the start of early voting.

Fraudulent guides were being sent to voters and the SJC Republican Party wanted to make people aware of this to clear up any confusion.

The fraudulent voter guides look like the real guide. However, the fraudulent guide (pictured left) featured the St. Johns County GOP logo, a list of candidates the party did not support, and no legal disclaimers indicating who paid for the guide.

The party said in June that it had voted for eight candidates in the August 20 primary.

SJC Republican Party Chairman Denver Cook called the fake guides the “most obvious case of voter fraud” he has “witnessed to date.”

Cook said police had been contacted about the matter and the fraudulent activity had also been reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Cook also planned to take legal action on behalf of the SJC Republican Party.

“The Republican Party of Florida and the St. Johns County Republican Party are the only organizations qualified to officially speak on behalf of our party in St. Johns County. We take this matter very seriously and are investigating it. No voter in Florida should be misled by faceless, fake groups pretending to speak on behalf of the GOP,” Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power said in a statement.

Early voting begins on Saturday, August 10. Election Day is August 20.
