Edmonton Police warn of objects thrown from overpass onto Whitemud Drive

A warning to motorists in west Edmonton as Edmonton Police Service (EPS) investigates 12 cases of objects being thrown from overpasses on Whitemud Drive.

According to EPS, incidents involving rocks or heavy debris being thrown from pedestrian bridges on Whitemud Drive between 149 Street and 184 Street occurred between March 27 and June 22.

According to EPS, these incidents have caused significant damage to vehicles and put occupants at risk of serious injury.

“In 2002, an incident like this left a 75-year-old man dead and two teenagers charged with manslaughter,” said Cst. Tylar Heigh, with EPS West Branch. “Throwing objects at moving vehicles can have serious consequences, including the death of civilians and serious criminal charges for the suspects.”
