Grants to recognise and support veterans in Victoria

Applications for the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund and Victoria Remembers grants are now open.

The Anzac Day Proceeds Fund grants are used to support a range of veteran welfare and wellbeing activities in Victoria.

Victoria Remembers grants fund projects that recognise the efforts of veterans or educate Victorians about the sacrifices and contributions veterans make.

Last year, a $28,000 grant from Victoria Remembers funded a documentary by This Story Australia (TSA), a not-for-profit organisation, that told the stories of veterans of the Williamstown Football Club (WFC).

According to TSA Director Jeff Hughes, the documentary focuses not only on the experiences and lives of veterans, but also on their stories as members of the WFC.

The documentaries help build stronger community ties and preserve the legacy of veterans, he said.

“Veterans and their services should be remembered throughout the year, not just on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day,” Mr Hughes said.

In a statement, WFC CEO Ashley Baker said: WFC was delighted to be able to work with the TSA to commemorate four of their veterans with the documentaries that aired during the ANZAC Day match against Werribee.

“The videos played on our big screen as over 1,000 visitors watched quietly and attentively as our veterans told their stories,” Baker said.

“This was an exceptionally moving tribute to our football club and the people who served our country.”

Greg Yorke, Chair of the Victorian Veterans Council, said: “We look forward to seeing applications for projects that will ensure our veterans are supported throughout their lives – and that their stories and legacies live on for generations.”
