RCMP searching for naked man at campsite in Kananaskis, Alta.

A naked man spotted several times by campers in Kananaskis Country, Alta., over the past month has so far evaded efforts to find him.

The RCMP and Kananaskis Emergency Services have received several reports of a completely naked man near Mount Kidd RV Park, including reports of recent sightings on July 16 and July 23.

“There has been no report of him being in any acts other than nudity, but it is a little odd that he keeps getting spotted and then running away,” said RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff.

Officers have stepped up patrols in the area and said they have located several hideouts where they believe the man has set up, but they have not been able to locate him.

“The fact that he is camping illegally in the park would be one thing, but the bigger concern here is the nudity and the potential exposure to young people, that would be my biggest concern,” he said.

The man is described as white, slim in build and possibly with a beard.

Kerri Desa, from Calgary, arrived at the campsite with her friends and family on Tuesday evening to meet with conservationists and police.

“Here you hear about bears, so I didn’t think about it,” she said. “I thought it was some kind of joke, who’s running around naked here?”

She said she has warned her children not to stray too far from their residence.

“It’s not funny, but it’s kind of funny. It’s like, ‘Okay, watch out for bears and naked people out there,'” she said.

“But it’s a little bit disturbing. This is a family environment and you have to wonder what’s going on with this guy? Does he need mental help or is he doing it to be weird?”

Other campers agree, including Victoria Malko, who is camping with her children.

“That’s certainly not necessary and hopefully they catch him and see what’s going on with him so they can get the help that he clearly needs,” she said.

A Reddit user wrote about his experience encountering the man.

“He saw and/or heard us and took off like a deer! He ran and moved through the trees like an animal that knows the trails well,” the post reads.

Corporal Savinkoff said the man could face criminal charges for nudity or indecent exposure, but said officers want to find and speak to the man first.

“We don’t know if there’s something bigger that’s threatening some of the individuals or if it’s just someone who likes to camp naked in the woods. At this point, we just don’t know. It’s hard to draw any conclusions until we find the individual and complete our investigation to ultimately determine what they’re up to,” he said.

In a statement, Mount Kidd RV Park management said it “is supporting the RCMP as much as possible to ensure this individual is apprehended.”
