Suspect charged in ‘violent’ home invasion in Port Moody: police

A man is facing several charges in connection with a violent home invasion in Port Moody earlier this year.

Port Moody police said in a news release Thursday that they received a call around 8 a.m. on April 28 asking about the welfare of a family in the Heritage Woods neighborhood.

When officers arrived on scene, they found multiple victims of a home invasion, according to police. The victims were treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

On July 25, police arrested Tsz Wing Boaz Chan, a non-resident of Canada, when he attempted to re-enter the country at Vancouver International Airport.

Seven charges have been approved against Chan, including aggravated assault, forcible confinement and burglary.

Police say he remains in custody pending his next court appearance on August 6.

“This was a targeted and violent home invasion with the intent to steal cryptocurrency,” Acting Sergeant Sam Zacharias said in the release. “The matter is now before the courts, but it remains an ongoing investigation as we work to identify additional suspects.”
