Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis release Warriors concept album

Lin-Manuel Miranda and co-writer Eisa Davis will release a concept album on October 18 via Atlantic Records inspired by the 1979 film The warriors.

The 26-track concept album was produced by Grammy-winning rapper Nas and produced by Grammy-winning musician Mike Elizondo. Hamilton The creator has been working on the album with Davis, a New York playwright and actor, for the past three years.

The album follows a New York City gang as they travel across the city after being accused of murdering Cyrus, a respected rival gang leader. The 1979 film, which has become a cult classic, was based on the 1965 novel by Sol Yurick.

“We’ve spent the last three years musically chronicling the Warriors’ journey home from the South Bronx to Coney Island. Along the way, we’ve had the pleasure of working with many of our favorite artists, and we’ll be revealing their roles on the album in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to share these songs with you on October 18th,” Miranda and Davis said in a statement.

The cast for the album and future plans for the project after the release of the concept album have not yet been announced.

In the past, however, concept albums have led to a staged musical, as was the case with Sara Bareilles’ WaitressDavid Byrne and Fat Boy Slim’s Here Lies Love, The Who’s Tommyand more. Miranda originally wanted Hamilton as a concept album, and after the production opened on Broadway, he released The Hamilton Mixtape, featuring songs from the musical, performed by artists including Kelly Clarkson, Nas, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and more.

Since I wrote and starred in HamiltonMiranda has also written music for the Disney films To enjoy And Vaiana, directed the film adaptation of Tick, tick… Boom! and served as producer on the film adaptation of his musical In the heights, among other projects. He is writing songs for Disney’s upcoming film, Mufasa: The Lion King.

Davis is a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her play, Chives, and wrote and starred in the acclaimed play Angela’s mixtape. She is an Obie Award winner for her role in the musical Strange passing byin addition to several other roles on stage, including the musical adaptation of The Secret Life of Bees and Dave Malloy’s To predict.
