A 7-year-old Florida girl who disappeared Tuesday has died after being found in a pond, police said.

A resident told WJAX they witnessed police pull Adalyn Laymon from a retention pond near her St. Johns County home. A spokesperson said an officer and firefighter saw her underwater near the shore.

Laymon, who was nonverbal and autistic, was found in the pond about an hour after St. Johns County police issued a missing person report for her.

According to WTLV, Laymon was taken to the hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead.

No foul play is suspected in Laymon’s death.

“This was a tragic accident,” police said.
