Italian Air Force to fly over Toronto

On Thursday, the red, white and green planes of the Italian Air Force will grace the skies over Toronto during a flyover.

In a press release, the Canadian International Air Show announced that the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force aerobatic team, will perform a flyover starting at 4:30 p.m.

The event, which marks the group’s first flight over the city in nearly 40 years, can be seen from anywhere along Toronto’s waterfront.

Thursday’s performance comes ahead of the Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) in late August. Due to scheduling constraints, the Frecce Tricolori will depart before the 75th annual event begins.

“Our personnel and advanced equipment can be quickly deployed anywhere in the world, allowing us to operate effectively in any location worldwide,” said Col. Stefano Pietropaoli of the Aeronautica Militare in a press release. “We are delighted to return to Toronto after 38 years, where we flew the Frecce across the skyline.”

The last time the aerobatic team performed in Toronto was in 1986, when it was part of the CIAS line-up.

According to the CIAS, the exhibition will last from Thursday until 5:30 p.m.
