Nearly a year after the fires, MHS continues to provide veterinary care and support to the pets of those affected. MHS has taken in more than 880 pets from the Lahaina burn zone, of which 220 pets were reunited with their ‘ohanas and 220 were adopted by new ‘ohanas. More than 1,500 non-shelter animals were treated by MHS veterinarians outside the shelter at emergency shelters and temporary housing sites for displaced residents.

All photoshoots took place in West Maui and shot by the award-winning and Oahu-based photographer, Dana Edmundswho volunteered their time and talents. Furry participants (including dogs, cats, a guinea pig, and a pet chicken) have loving homes, are available for adoption, or are being cared for in foster homes. Human participants include Maui’s firefighters and lifeguards who are members of the Hawaii Hawaii Firefighters Association and Government Employees Association.

“The collaborative rescue efforts of the Maui Humane Society staff and volunteers, along with the heroic actions of Maui’s firefighters and lifeguards, serves as a tribute to the unbreakable bond between animals and people,” said MHS Development Director, Kathleen Hogartysaid. “With this calendar fundraiser, we want to highlight the courage and resilience of our island and emphasize the importance of community solidarity during times of crisis.”

Thanks to the support of an anonymous donor, all donations are doubled $50,000which means that the impact of calendar votes is only $1 a vote means twice as much.
