Missing Markham woman: Murder charges filed against suspect

York Regional Police say they have filed second-degree murder charges against the man accused in the disappearance of a Markham woman. The woman disappeared last week after her body was found in the city of Kawartha Lakes.

Police said Wednesday that human remains were found during their search for 57-year-old Ying Zhang. In a news release Thursday, police said the Office of the Chief Corner positively identified the remains as Zhang.

They said the charge has now been upgraded to second-degree murder against 26-year-old Changlin Yang of East Gwillimbury, Ontario. Yang previously faced charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement and aggravated assault.
