Tent collapse at meditation center kills 1

One person was killed and others were injured when an event tent collapsed Wednesday, sending hundreds of people tumbling to the ground in north Edmonton.

Bad weather caused the tent to collapse around 5:30 p.m. at Tu Viện Tây Thiên, also known as the Westlock Meditation Center, north of Busby and south of Westlock, the RCMP said.

The number of injured was not known to the mounted police.

They said some of them were taken to local hospitals by emergency rooms.

Both the RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are investigating.

An organizer told CTV News the meditation center would host a retreat starting Thursday through Aug. 11.

This is a developing story. More to come…
