Police Report: Copper Wire Stolen, $10,000 Cash, $25,000 Checks Reported Lost

Burglary: The manager of a vacant home on Birchall Drive reported on July 25 that he saw an unknown man arrive at the location via surveillance camera in a gray Subaru and enter through a back door. The man remained in the home for a short time and then left the location carrying what appeared to be copper wire. The property manager stated that contractors had been in and out of the location, but he did not recognize the man. He stated that he wanted to document the incident for additional passengers and that he would contact the property owner to see if he wanted to file a formal report.

Offence
At 3:15 a.m. on July 26, a resident of Catherine Road saw a person walking around her home via her doorbell camera. While on the phone with dispatch, she received an additional alert from her camera and saw the person behind her home near a shed and back door. Patrol checked the outside of the home and found everything safe and in good condition. Police then found a person in the shed behind the home.

Credit card
On July 26, a resident walked into the main office to report that his father had opened a credit card in his name without his permission. The card was blocked.

Disputes
Police intervened in a dispute between two residents on Popham Road on July 24. One resident accused the other of blocking the door while he waited for a taxi.

On July 27, police responded to a dispute between two walkers on the high school track. One walker reported having a verbal altercation with another man, described as wearing a green shirt, over track etiquette. The walker stated that he and the other man exchanged words while running and that the other man then bumped him in the shoulder while running. The other man left the scene before patrol arrived.

Cars and roads
On July 22, police located the owner of a parked car at Boulevard and Potter Road and asked the owner to move the car so village workers could perform tree maintenance work.
On July 22, police also located the owner of a parked car blocking a driveway on Wayside Lane and asked the owner to move the car.
On July 22, police flagged a low-hanging wire above Brite Avenue and alerted the utility company.
On July 23, police called a tow truck for a broken down car on Garth Road, while cones were also set up to direct traffic.
On July 23, a branch fell on power lines on Aspen Road. Police alerted Con Edison.
A parking attendant issued fines for incorrectly parked cars on Stonehouse Road and Brambach Road on July 25.
This week, five car accidents were officially reported in the city.

Noise
Suspicious noises came from a building on Brewster Road, but turned out to be raccoons in a dumpster on July 25.

Animals
On July 26, police helped a dog owner get her dog inside through the front yard.

Police shot and killed a raccoon with two injured legs that appeared to be suffering in a driveway on Hampton Road on July 28.

Lost and found
Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel found a NYS Benefits card on Weaver Street and turned it over to police for safekeeping on July 22.

On July 24, a caller reported losing a rose gold Tiffany bracelet near East Parkway on July 22. She asked police to notify her if anyone found the bracelet and turned it in.

A Harwood Court business manager reported that on July 24, he had lost an envelope containing $25,000 in undeposited checks. The manager attempted to deposit the checks on July 19, but due to a bank error, the deposit was unsuccessful. The manager then left the checks in an envelope on the counter. When he returned to the office after the weekend, the envelope containing the checks was gone.

A motorcyclist reported that he had lost the license plate of his bicycle somewhere in the village on July 24.

Police found a mobile phone on Fenimore Road and returned it to its owner on July 25.

On July 25, a woman found a credit card on East Parkway and turned it in to police.

On July 26, a woman reported that she had lost two envelopes containing a total of $10,000 in cash. She said she withdrew the money from a bank in Village Center and then went to DeCicco’s Marketplace to buy some groceries. When she got home, she realized that the envelopes containing the cash were gone. When the person returned to the bank to withdraw more money, the bank manager became concerned and alerted police that the person may have been the victim of a scam. However, the person and police assured the manager that the money was simply lost.

Village code
On July 23, police advised homeowners to move signs that were on the village road at Sheldrake Road.

On July 27, a resident of Griffen Avenue reported that a man and a youth came to his door to solicit him and “extort him for money.” Police combed the neighborhood and found no traffickers.

On July 28, police advised homeowners to move signs that lined the village road on Hamilton Road.

Police warned children that fishing in the Audrey Hochberg Pond at Olmsted and Brewster Roads was prohibited as of July 28.

On July 28, police alerted a Ferncliff Road party host that neighbors had complained about noise. The host said she would move the party indoors.

Firefighters
On July 22, firefighters for Con Edison responded to elevated carbon monoxide levels in a home on Paddington Road. The water heater was recommended for service because levels seemed to rise when it was in use. Firefighters ventilated the area with fans.

On July 23, firefighters helped a Boulevard resident use a house key to enter his home.

On July 24, firefighters responded to Con Edison at the scene of a carbon monoxide leak on Stratton Road.

Firefighters responded to a car crash on Walworth Avenue on July 24.

On July 24, firefighters assisted emergency responders in getting a patient back into bed in Eastchester.

A pilot light that was set to “on” released gas into a business on Depot Place on July 25. Firefighters ventilated the area and extinguished the pilot light.

Firefighters responded to a car crash where a car crashed into a house on July 26 in the Fairview Fire District.

On July 28, a driver was trapped outside a car at Griffen Avenue and Weaver Street. Firefighters opened the door to let the driver in.

An Oak Way resident was unable to turn off the gas supply to his grill on July 28. Firefighters arrived on scene and advised that the grill be checked.

On July 28, firefighters helped a Marjory Lane resident back inside after he was accidentally locked out.
