Iowa City high school rankings 1-6 for 2024 season

Iowa City high school rankings 1-6 for 2024 season

There are about four weeks until the start of the Iowa high school football season which means it’s a perfect time to rank all of the teams in the Iowa City area.

The IHSAA football scene in the Iowa City area will once again be highlighted by six squads: Clear Creek Amana, Iowa City High, Iowa City Liberty, Iowa City West, Regina Catholic and Solon.

When ranking the best teams, it would be wise to save that No. 1 spot for Solon football. The Spartans–coached by Lucas Stanton–are coming off their 19th straight playoff appearance, posting a 10-2 record with a finish in the state semifinals last season. Despite some key losses this offseason, the Solon football team is still expected to make noise in Class 3A.

The senior group of quarterback Tyler Bell, running back Eddie Johnson and all-state offensive lineman Grant Wilson will have a big offensive presence while all-state defensive back Cole Carney will return to the Spartan defense in 2024.

A new season will introduce a fresh slate for the best players in the area. Expect big contributions from many standouts, including North Dakota State commit Brody Clubb of CCA and Iowa commit Mason Woods of Iowa City West.
