Kylie Masse, Canadian Women’s Relay Team Advances to Olympic Swimming

PARIS — Canadian swimmer Kylie Masse has qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 200-meter backstroke with the second-fastest time in the heats.

The 28-year-old from LaSalle, Ontario, won silver in the event three years ago in Tokyo, with the top 16 swimmers qualifying for the evening semifinals.

The women’s 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay team, consisting of Emma O’Croinin of Edmonton, Ella Jansen of Burlington, Ontario, Julie Brousseau of Ottawa and Marie-Sophie Harvey of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, secured a ticket to the evening’s eight-team final by qualifying sixth.

Toronto teenager Summer McIntosh swims for her second gold medal and her third medal in Paris in the evening final of the 200-meter butterfly.

Reigning world champion Finlay Knox of Okotoks, Alta., reached the semifinals of the men’s 200-meter individual medley, finishing 13th in the heats.

Toronto’s Josh Liendo also reached the men’s 50-meter freestyle, finishing 15th.
