Halifax County Deputies investigating shooting;  1 dead

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said a person is dead after a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning.

According to Deputies, Sheriff Fred S. Clark stated that at 1:20 am the Halifax County 911 center received a call of a possible shooting at a residence in the 2000 block of Thompson Store Road. When Deputies WO White and Cpl. JS Garber arrived on the scene they located a male subject lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Moments later, EMS personnel arrived and pronounced that the subject had died because of his injuries.

Deputies said the victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Clark stated that the residence where the incident occurred is vacant and the incident appears to be isolated.

Anyone who may have any information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 476-3334 or the Halifax County crime line at 476-8445. You may remain anonymous. A $1000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect/suspects responsible for this crime. Investigator, Sergeant JM Burton is in charge of the investigation. South Boston Police Department and Halifax Police Department assisted with this call as well, Deputies said.
