Bangla Tigers and Brampton Wolves record contrasting victories

Brampton (Canada), August 1 (ANI): Bangla Tigers Mississauga moved to second spot on the scoreboard after a four-wicket win over Surrey Jaguars, before Brampton Wolves got their act together and got back on the winning track with a six-wicket win over Vancouver Knights.

Vancouver Knights opted to bat and capitalised on a late revival from Scottish veteran Richie Berrington (38 not out) and Pakistani white-ball specialist Asif Ali (36 not out from 17 balls) to post a competitive 149/4. With the Knights struggling at 90/4 in the 16th over, the duo gave the Knights’ innings some much-needed impetus with an unbeaten 59-run partnership.

In response, David Warner led the chase with a brisk 20-ball 25 until a flurry of wickets nearly derailed Wolves’ effort. With the team in need of some solidity, Australian duo Beau Webster (49 not out) and Nick Hobson (37 not out) led the comeback with an unbeaten 86-run fifth-wicket partnership to give Wolves their second win in four outings.

Wiese’s all-round performance saves Bangla Tigers Namibian star David Wiese’s all-round performance (27 not out and 2/17) helped Bangla Tigers Mississauga beat Surrey Jaguars by four wickets and move to second spot in the table.

Opting to bat, Surrey were bowled out for 101 in 19.5 overs. The Jaguars then almost valiantly defended the meagre total, led by a three-wicket haul by experienced West Indies star Sunil Narine, before Mississauga secured victory with an over to go.

Mississauga now sit on six points, having won three of the four games they have played so far, while Surrey sit in fourth place with two points after a single win from three games.

Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful Islam was Mississauga’s most successful bowler with a score of 3/11. Bangladeshi colleague Shakib Al Hasan and Wiese took two wickets each.

Shoriful struck first when he sent back Narine, sparking a rapid decline in the Surrey batting, with the Jaguars reduced to 46/8 by the end of the 10th over. Marcus Stoinis (36) and Logan van Beek (31) were the only Surrey batters to put up a show of fight, ensuring Surrey reached the three-figure mark.

Mississauga also found themselves in trouble early in the chase. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed by Ben Lister in the very first over before Narine took three quick wickets to reduce the Tigers to 31/4 in the ninth over. Wiese then led the comeback with an unbeaten 27, allowing Mississauga’s lower order to hold on for the win. (ANI)
