Iraqi judoka first positive doping test at Olympic Games

A male judoka from Iraq has returned the first positive doping test at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Sajjad Sehen tested positive for two anabolic steroids, metandienone and boldenone, in Paris on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old, who is making his first Olympic appearance, was scheduled to compete in the round of 32 in the men’s under 81 kilogram class next Tuesday.

Sehen has been provisionally suspended pending a disciplinary case, the International Testing Agency (ITA) confirmed.

He has the right to request the analysis of his B sample, but the examination will prevent him from attending the Games.

“The athlete has been informed of the matter and has been provisionally suspended until the matter is resolved in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” an ITA statement said.

“This means that the athlete will be prevented from participating in any activity during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”

It was added: “The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD).”
