RCMP accelerates recruitment of officers in Northern British Columbia

FORT ST. JOHN, BC — The BC RCMP has announced a new recruitment initiative to help new officers join detachments in the north more quickly.

According to an announcement, the police department is adding a new provision to the current system that will allow candidates from British Columbia to return to the province after completing their training at the Depot Division academy in Regina.

“Candidates interested in applying to police departments in our Northern District are now being offered a pre-posting agreement, subject to successful completion of depot training,” the announcement reads.

According to the press release, the RCMP detachments in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality are all recruiting for “non-limited term” contracts.

Meanwhile, the detachments at Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, and Fort Nelson are recruiting officers for four-year terms, and the Hudson’s Hope detachment is recruiting officers for three-year terms.

After these limited-term contracts expire, officers can renew their contracts and remain in the community long-term or “apply to specialized units or other communities to gain more experience in their careers,” according to the RCMP.

Interested parties are requested to send an email to the RCMP with the subject line “North District Recruiting” and include the following:

  • Name
  • Applicant ID number (for those who have one)
  • Top three detachments in order of preference
