1 dead after tent collapse

One person has died and several people have been taken to hospital after a building collapsed at the Westlock Meditation Centre near Busby, just over 50 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, according to the Alberta RCMP.

According to mounted police, a large tent structure collapsed around 5:30 p.m. due to the extreme weather.

The RCMP from Westlock and several other areas, along with ambulance and fire personnel, arrived on scene and began assisting several people who were near or in the tent when it collapsed.

According to police officials, despite multiple attempts at medical attention, one person died from his injuries.

The Occupational Health and Safety Division and the RCMP have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
