Ramona Town Hall officials announce new deputy mayor, concert donation – San Diego Union-Tribune

Garrett Wear was sworn in on July 22 as the town’s honorary deputy mayor.

The Town Hall board of directors decided to award Wear the title because of the closeness of the honorary mayor’s race and amount of work to be done, said Town Hall President Woody Kirkman.

“This was a horse race by any definition — less than 2,000 votes separated the candidates,” Kirkman said about the race in which Tim Connelly had the most votes. “And there will be enough work and events for more than one person.”

Overall the three candidates — Connelly, Wear and Robin Joy Maxson — raised more than $31,000 for the Town Hall benefit.

Wear was nominated by Kirkman, who was also the first honorary deputy mayor, serving from 1988 to 1990.

Wear’s goals will include “taking responsibility and pride in the things that matter most to me, and trying to preserve the history and integrity of the town.”

“I want to have as many events as I can here at Town Hall, but even if I host them at other venues, it will all be in the name of Town Hall,” Wear said.

A check for $2,150 was presented to Ramona Town Hall from musician Ashley E. Norton. The funds were raised from a concert the performer held in June to benefit renovations of the historic building. Ramona musician Ashley E. Norton, lead singer of Lady Psychiatrist’s Booth, recently raised more $2,150 for the Town Hall renovations.

The money came from a benefit concert she held in June for her newest solo album, “Call of the Void.”

She teamed with special guest Johnny Garcia, music producer and lead guitar player for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, for a sold-out Saturday night event, followed by a Sunday matinee.

“We are all very excited about seeing the completion of Town Hall — the possibilities of what we can do there are incredible,” Norton said. “Although it’s a drop in the bucket, it feels good to have participated in my own small way to a much bigger picture.”
