Ramona Town Hall Officials Announce New Vice Mayor, Concert Donation – San Diego Union-Tribune

Garrett Wear was sworn in as the city’s honorary deputy mayor on July 22.

The City Hall board decided to award Wear the title because of the close bond between the honorary mayoral candidates and the amount of work that needs to be done, said City Hall President Woody Kirkman.

“This was a horse race, no matter how you look at it: Less than 2,000 votes separated the candidates,” Kirkman said of the race in which Tim Connelly had the most votes. “And there will be plenty of work and events for more than one person.”

In total, the three candidates — Connelly, Wear and Robin Joy Maxson — raised more than $31,000 for the City Hall benefit.

Wear was nominated by Kirkman, who also served as the first honorary deputy mayor from 1988 to 1990.

Wear’s goals will include “taking responsibility and pride in the things that matter most to me, and trying to preserve the history and integrity of the city.”

“I want to host as many events as possible here at City Hall, but even if I host them at other locations, it will all be in the name of City Hall,” Wear said.

A check for $2,150 was presented to Ramona Town Hall by musician Ashley E. Norton. The money was raised at a concert the artist gave in June to support the renovation of the historic building. Ashley E. Norton, Ramona musician and lead singer of Lady Psychiatrist’s Booth, recently raised another $2,150 for City Hall renovations.

The money came from a benefit concert she held in June for her latest solo album, “Call of the Void.”

She teamed up with special guest Johnny Garcia, music producer and lead guitarist for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, for a sold-out event on Saturday night, followed by an afternoon performance on Sunday.

“We’re all very excited about the completion of Town Hall — the possibilities of what we can do there are incredible,” Norton said. “Although it’s a drop in the ocean, it feels good to have played a part in something much bigger in my own small way.”
