$1.5 Million Raised at Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper

.5 Million Raised at Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper

More than $1.5 million was raised on Wednesday for Albertans affected by wildfires.

The province-wide Alberta Day of Caring was a collaboration between radio broadcasters in the province and the Alberta Bottle Depot Association.

Albertans donated more than $500,000 to the fundraiser, with the provincial and federal governments matching every dollar.

As of Wednesday evening, $518,482 had been raised. That number is expected to grow as the bottle depots continue to accept donations through the end of the long weekend.

“While the day was a huge success, Albertans can continue to donate their empty cans and bottles until the end of the day on Monday,” a representative for the radio station said in a press release. “Just say ‘These are for Jasper.'”

Alberta residents can find the nearest participating Bottle Depot location at www.findadepot.ca.

Online donations also remain possible on the Red Cross website.

The money from the fundraiser will go to Albertans affected by the wildfires, including residents of Jasper.
