50 Hamilton County employees to be relocated to Gateway Building

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The future Gateway School will be the temporary home base for 50 provincial employees.

These employees worked in the MLK Building on Oak Street.

The committee approved a resolution allowing them to work in the Gateway Building on 6th Street while repairs are made to the MLK Building, which currently has inadequate air conditioning.

Although this temporary move is only for a year, the renovation project for the MLK building has not yet begun, leading some to worry that it could delay the Gateway’s future school.

“If we don’t even know when we’re going to put a project out to tender, or the size of the project, then I’m not sure how we can commit to 12 months. That’s fine, I can just vote no, and you can approve it if you want, but it seems to me that this move is not as well thought out as it should be,” said Commissioner David Sharpe.

County officials say Hamilton County Executive Dr. Justin Robertson is being consulted as they prepare the Gateway Building for school.
