Northern Tornadoes Project Confirms Funnel Cloud Is Tornado

Scientists with the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) have confirmed that a funnel-shaped cloud spotted near Little Current on Tuesday afternoon was a tornado.

Several witnesses captured the tornado on Facebook and camper Maggie McMurray sent some photos to CTVNews.

“My neighbor called us to it, she was fishing and we were working on our water line. We got out of the water quickly,” McMurray told CTVNews.

The photos were taken around 3:55-3:56 PM.

In a post on Facebook, NTP writes:

“The visual evidence shows a long funnel-shaped cloud accompanied by a spray vortex at the surface. So far, there is no evidence that the tornado moved over land.”

Further on it says that a waterspout is nothing more than a tornado over water.

They have named it an EF0 on the Fujita scale, which is the smallest or lowest tornado that can be recorded.
