As of Tuesday, Alberta residents can order and have legal cannabis delivered, thanks to a partnership between UberEats and online cannabis marketplace Leafly.

The products, sourced from local approved retailers, can be ordered through the UberEats app.

Retailers send their own employees to hand over the goods. Upon delivery, they check the age and sobriety of the customer.

“To make it work and to allow for regulation, we need to have our own provincially certified store personnel doing the deliveries,” said Daniel Nguyen, founder of Numo Cannabis.

Numo Cannabis was the first – and only – retailer in Edmonton to offer this service at launch.

“It’s going great,” said Daniel Nguyen, founder of Numo. “We expect it to get busy as the weekend goes into the long weekend.”

Nguyen said customers can buy the same products at home as they would in the store. He is also exploring the possibility of staying open longer on weekends.

“We would like to conquer that night market if possible,” Nguyen said.

In 2023, Uber Eats and Leafly will begin delivering cannabis to British Columbia. So far, Calgary and Edmonton are the only communities in Aberta to offer this service.
