Timmins News: Mother of Kirkland Lake murder victim still waiting for answers

The mother of Lea Thompson, who was killed in Kirkland Lake last summer, says she is still waiting for the full outcome of the investigation into her daughter.

Ontario Provincial Police reported Tuesday that Martyn Rosko, the man they suspect killed Thompson and three other people from the community last summer, has died.

Police found Thompson’s remains on August 8 of last year in a Kirkland Lake home. She was 33. Also inside was another victim, a 37-year-old man named Kyle Robertson.

Tammy Thompson, Lea’s mother, said Rosko was her daughter’s boyfriend. A Facebook photo with him was taken the day before her daughter died.

Police have still not released details about why exactly Lea or the other three victims were killed.

“And I don’t even have the autopsy report yet,” Tammy said.

Police told CTV News they have been working on the case for more than a year and have determined that Rosko is responsible for the four killings — two discovered on Aug. 8 and another two on July 30 of last year, also in Kirkland Lake.

“So our investigation continues. And as I said, these are quite complex,” OPP Det. Insp. Ray St-Pierre told CTV.

“And it takes time to make sure that all of those things are investigated and that we can, you know, give the public and the families the right answers.”

Police said Rosko was taken into custody on Aug. 6 on charges unrelated to the killings and died after his arrest. But they said they could not release details about his cause of death.

Tammy Thompson said she will speak with police in the next few days and hopes to get more details to reassure Lea’s 10-year-old daughter.

“I can’t find peace and neither can she, because I can’t answer half of her questions,” she said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they cannot release any further details. They said they will release more information to the families about their children’s murders as soon as possible.
