Michigan teen John Agnello saves driver who jumped into Lake St. Clair

A teenager risked his life Tuesday to save a driver who had fallen into a Michigan lake.

John Agnello, 15, was fishing with his mother near the Lake Saint Clair marina when he saw the car fly into the water.

“I just see a car flying through the air. It was about 50 feet in the water, that’s how far it was,” Agnello told WLIX 10.

The quick-thinking teenager and another man jumped into the water and headed straight for the car, which quickly sank beneath the surface, trapping the woman inside.

The water pressure on the car door prevented the duo from opening the door.

Instead, they were able to command her to open her windows before diving below the surface, giving them just enough time to pull her out.

After Agnello and the other unknown hero brought the woman to shore, the determined teenager climbed into the flooded car to make sure no one else was trapped inside.

“The only thing that scared me a little bit was that I was under water in the car, because I was feeling around there. It became a little difficult to get out, but everything was fine,” Agnello recalled.

As for Agnello, he tries to prevent his heroism from going to his head.

“I think that’s how my family raised me, just taking action and all that stuff,” he said.
