Driver who showed up late for work was no longer speeding on Highway 417 in Ottawa, OPP says

A driver was late for work and faces a minimum $2,000 fine after being pulled over for speeding on Highway 417 in Ottawa, police said.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, an officer on Tuesday saw a driver traveling at 154 km/h as he traveled from Highway 416 to Highway 417, passing several vehicles.

“The driver of this vehicle was late for work and decided it would be a good idea to pass eight vehicles at the last minute before he had to switch from Highway 416 to Highway 417,” the OPP said on X.

“Not only was the driver late for work, he was also given a 30-day driving ban, a 14-day vehicle impound and must appear in court.”

According to police, if convicted, the driver faces a minimum fine of $2,000 and a one-year driving ban.

“Take your time and arrive at your destination safely, even if that means being a little late,” the OPP said.
