Pedestrian killed in Winnipeg was mother of 3 who ‘loved her boys with all her heart’: family

The pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run this week was a 32-year-old mother of three who, her family said, will be remembered for her love for her boys and the way she made those around her laugh.

A vigil will be held Tuesday evening for Loretta Morrine Green, 32, who family members say was the person struck by a vehicle shortly after midnight Monday at the corner of Notre Dame Avenue and McPhillips Street in Winnipeg.

She was taken to hospital in unstable condition, where she later died.

“We’re going to miss her so much,” Diane Thomas, Green’s mother, told CBC News via Facebook. Green leaves behind three young boys, Thomas said.

“My daughter was always happy when she was with us, she loved her boys with everything in her heart,” she said. “She loved to joke with her brothers and sisters and always made us laugh.”

A candlelight vigil will be held at the crash site Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in memory of Green and “the remarkable life that was taken too soon,” according to a Facebook post.

Police previously reported that the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and spoke with officers.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of Monday, police said.
