Ottawa hate crime: 2 charged in Canada Day attack on OC Transpo

Ottawa police have charged two people in connection with alleged hate incidents aboard OC Transpo vehicles on Canada Day.

According to police, the suspects made racist insults and threats towards a family on public transport at around 7:30 p.m. and later attacked an adult in another vehicle.

The victim was injured and taken to a local hospital.

An Ottawa police spokesperson said in an email that the incidents occurred on a bus and an O train, but did not provide further details.

The suspects were later found by OC Transpo officers.

A 27-year-old and a 26-year-old suspect, both from Ottawa, were charged with assault.

They are both due to appear in court on August 7.

Ottawa Police encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences hate incidents to report them to police.
