Broken water main on Stittsville Main Street in west Ottawa

Broken water main on Stittsville Main Street in west Ottawa

Some Stittsville residents may experience water service interruptions Tuesday due to a broken water main.

Stittsville Main Street is closed between Abbott Street East and Wintergreen Drive due to an infrastructure failure.

Councillor Glen Gower says the water main broke at 6am on Tuesday and crews are on site to begin repairs.

“It’s a large water main that runs through the middle of Stittsville Main and the break occurred right in front of the Frederick Banting School,” Gower said on Facebook.

“City of Ottawa workers were able to stop the water before it became a sinkhole, but there is still a lot of mud and water near the site. They have to dig into the road today to determine where the break occurred and then repair it, so they will continue working into tonight.”

Gower says nearby homes and businesses have no water and “it appears a lot of businesses have decided to remain closed all day.” Gower says a daycare center sent children home.

There is no information yet available about when the water supply will be restored.
