Calgary Launches Housing Capital Initiative

CALGARY – The City of Calgary has launched a $60 million Housing Capital Initiative designed to provide financial support to partners delivering affordable housing.

The initiative is part of 98 actions in the City Housing Strategy and supports the first outcome of increasing housing supply to meet demand and improve affordability, according to a City of Calgary press release.

“The Housing Capital Initiative will provide financial support to Calgary housing partners to leverage funding from programs delivered by other levels of government, public foundations, philanthropic donors and the private sector, with the primary goal of increasing the supply of non-commercial housing and securing much-needed homes for Calgary residents,” said Amanda Szpecht, Acting Manager of Housing Solutions for the City of Calgary.

The funding will be distributed over the next three years, the release said, and “it is anticipated that housing partners will leverage the city’s $60 million investment to leverage at least $140 million from other levels of government and/or other funding sources.”
