Several automakers have recently issued recalls in Canada for cars, SUVs, vans, minivans and pickup trucks.

Below is a summary of the recalls received by Transport Canada between July 2 and July 21.

Chrysler

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a recall for plug-in hybrid models of the 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivan.

In some vehicles, the recalls performed by an FCA dealer during recall Z11 (Transport Canada recall no. 2022-063) may not be effective and a second repair may be required. A problem in the high-voltage battery assembly may cause a short circuit in some vehicles.

“A short circuit can pose a fire hazard even if the vehicle is parked and turned off,” the July 18 recall states.

The automaker advises drivers not to charge their vehicles and to park them outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until recall repairs are completed. FCA Canada will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicles to a dealer to have the high-voltage battery pack control module (BPCM) software updated. The dealer will also inspect the battery pack assembly and replace it if necessary.

A separate recall involves the 2019 through 2021 Pacifica plug-in hybrid models.

A problem in the high voltage battery can cause a short circuit in some vehicles.

“A short circuit may pose a fire hazard even if the vehicle is parked and turned off,” said the recall, which was also announced on July 18.

Hyundai and Genesis

Hyundai has issued a recall for the 2024 Santa Fe SUV.

In some vehicles, a software problem can cause the transmission to become damaged, which can cause the vehicle to move when parked without the parking brake engaged.

“A parked vehicle that moves suddenly may pose a risk of injury or a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 11 and updated on July 18.

Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the transmission and replace it if necessary. The dealer will also update the transmission control unit software.

The automaker has also announced a separate recall for several Hyundai and Genesis cars and SUVs.

The affected vehicles include:

  • Genesis G70 from 2019 to 2023
  • Hyundai Elantra 2022 to 2023
  • Hyundai Kona 2022 to 2023
  • Hyundai Veloster from 2019 to 2022

In some vehicles, the high pressure fuel pump can fail. If this happens, the engine may run rough, the check engine light may come on, and there may be a sudden loss of engine power while driving.

For the Elantra, Kona and Veloster models, this recall only applies to the N versions.

“A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 11 and updated on July 18.

The automaker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the engine control module software. The high-pressure fuel pump will be replaced if necessary.

BMW

BMW has issued a recall for a number of older cars and SUVs.

The following vehicles were affected:

  • 2014 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series and X5
  • 2015 6 series,
  • 2013 to 2014 X3

In some vehicles, the driver’s side airbag inflator may rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. If this happens, the airbag may not inflate properly and fragments may be thrown toward the vehicle’s occupants.

“An airbag inflator that ruptures may pose a risk of injury or death,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 11 and updated on July 12.

BMW will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-side airbag module replaced.

A separate recall has been issued by BMW, which also covers the airbag, for the following vehicles:

  • 2005 1 Series
  • 2006 to 2012 3 Series
  • 2004, 2005 and 2011 to 2015 X3
  • 2016X5

This recall applies to vehicles that may be equipped with a replacement Sport or M Sport steering wheel with a Takata airbag. “Prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant gases in the driver’s airbag. This may cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments may be thrown toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, causing it to malfunction,” according to the recall, which was first issued on July 3 and updated on July 11.

“If the vehicle is involved in a collision that requires the airbag to deploy, the airbag inflator could rupture and pose a risk of injury.”

The automaker will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-side airbag module inspected and replaced if necessary.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for the 2023 Sprinter van.

On some vehicles the U-bolts that attach the rear axle to the suspension may not be properly manufactured and the axle may slide on the leaf spring. This can lead to poor handling and loss of control.

“A loss of control could result in a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued July 5 and updated July 10.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the leaf spring U-bolts replaced.

Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Jeep

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a recall for a number of cars and SUVs from several of its auto brands.

The affected vehicles include:

  • 2017 to 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia
  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2018 to 2025
  • 2024 Fiat 500e
  • Fiat 500X from 2019 to 2023
  • Jeep Renegade 2019 to 2023

The connector for the driver’s seat belt buckle sensor may break and cause the driver’s airbag to deploy with excessive force on some vehicles. This problem could cause the airbag warning light to come on in the instrument panel or the seat belt warning chime and seat belt warning light to stay on even when you have your seat belt fastened.

“An airbag that deploys with too much force could increase the risk of injury in a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued July 3 and updated July 10.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver seat belt sensor connector replaced.

Nissan

Nissan has issued a recall for the 2024 Sentra vehicle.

On some vehicles, air bubbles may form in the lower left portion of the windshield, making it difficult to see the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the glass.

“This issue may cause confusion when identifying the vehicle using the VIN number,” according to the recall, which was first issued on July 2 and updated on July 11.

Nissan will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the windshield inspected and replaced if necessary.

Porsche

Porsche has issued a recall for the 2024 model year Cayenne, Cayenne Coupé, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo Coupé.

A software issue on some vehicles may cause the front turn signals to display the wrong color when the vehicle is parked and the hazard lights are on. This may result in the vehicles not meeting certain requirements of Canadian regulations.

“Hazardous lights that are the wrong color may confuse others and increase the risk of an accident,” said the recall, which was first issued July 2 and updated July 10.

Porsche will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the headlight control unit software updated.

Fisherman

Fisker has issued a recall for its 2023 through 2024 Ocean SUV models.

In some vehicles, the electric water pump may fail, causing the vehicle to enter a reduced power (limp) mode. This can result in a loss of power to the wheels.

“A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 2 and updated on July 10.

Fisker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a Fisker service center to replace the electric water pump.

ford

Ford has announced a recall for 2022 through 2023 Mustang models.

A sensor in the steering box may not be calibrated properly on some vehicles, and the steering wheel may suddenly turn from left to right while turning. If this happens, you may lose control of the steering wheel.

“A loss of steering control could result in a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 1 and updated on July 10.

Ford will notify owners by mail advising them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) software.

A separate Ford recall has been issued for the 2025 F-650 and F-750 trucks. This recall only affects certain Super Duty incomplete vehicles.

On some vehicles, the ball joints on the tie rod(s) may not be manufactured properly, causing the ball joint pin to fail and causing you to lose steering control.

“A loss of steering control could result in a crash,” said the recall, which was first issued on July 1 and updated on July 22.

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the tie rod(s) inspected and replaced if necessary.
