1 person in critical condition, 3 pets dead after fire in North End


One person was taken to hospital in critical condition after a North End home fire early Monday morning killed three pets, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said.

Emergency services arrived at the two-story home on Alfred Avenue, near Aikins Street, around 3:11 a.m.

Firefighters rescued a person trapped in the building. The person was taken to hospital after being assessed by paramedics at the scene.

According to the WFPS, several pets were found in the home. Two cats and a dog died, while four kittens were rescued and are being cared for by the city’s Animal Services.

At 4am it was reported that the fire was under control. The cause is still under investigation.
