Flooding reported at two Toronto subway stations after heavy rainfall

Flooding reported at two Toronto subway stations after heavy rainfall

Metro trains were bypassing at least two flooded subway stations in Toronto late Monday afternoon.

The flooding affected eastbound trains at Christie Station on Line 2. The station has now reopened.

St. Patrick station on line 1 remains closed at this time.

The Delaware entrance to Ossington station, which is also on Line 2, was also closed due to the flooding, but has since reopened.

St. Patrick station on line 1 is closed due to heavy rainfall.

The problem arose after Toronto experienced intermittent torrential rain on Monday afternoon.

Environment Canada had already issued a rain warning shortly after 1 p.m., predicting 40 to 60 millimeters of precipitation.

However, the warning was lifted around 3 p.m.

A heat warning is also still in effect for Toronto.

The heat and humidity act as “fuel for storms,” CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter said Monday morning.

“Severe storms are possible on Tuesday as a cold front moves through. The air in the wake of the cold front will be much more manageable and provide relief from the oppressive heat and humidity,” he said.
