All occupants safe after small plane crashes on Regina Beach runway

All occupants of the small private plane that crashed near Regina Beach, Saskatchewan, on Saturday were unharmed.

According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), it happened at 9:15 p.m. CST, after a Cessna 1-72 flying back and forth from Regina to Saskatoon experienced engine problems.

Saskatchewan RCMP spokesperson Keely Grasser said they received a report that a pilot was attempting an emergency landing on an airstrip at Regina Beach, about 45 kilometres northwest of Regina.

“Shortly after they received a report that the plane had crashed near the runway,” Grasser said.

Upon arrival, officers found the aircraft and its three occupants.

“Two of the occupants reported no injuries to police, and one was treated by EMS for an injury that we did not believe was life-threatening,” Grasser said.

The TSB said the plane overshot the runway and landed in a field near the runway, where it overturned. The crash was classified as a Class 5, the TSB said.

“Class 5 events are not subject to extensive investigations followed by an investigative report. However, data on Class 5 events are captured in an appropriate scope for possible future safety analysis, statistical reporting, or archiving purposes,” the report said.
