Murder charges against suspect in Victoria double stabbing approved

Months after a double stabbing in downtown Victoria left one victim dead, a suspect has been charged with murder.

Robert Henry Travers was previously charged with aggravated assault in connection with the March 31 stabbing, which was reported at a hostel on Pandora Avenue.

Police found one victim dead at the scene. The other was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A new charge of second-degree murder was approved against Travers on Thursday, Victoria police said.

Authorities have not released further information about the incident, including what led to the double stabbing.

“As this matter is now before the courts, no further details can be shared. The victim’s family requests privacy at this time,” the VicPD said in a press release.

Travers remains in custody pending a future trial.

Court documents show the suspect, who was born in 1960, has no criminal record in British Columbia.
