Sault News: Police Say Shoplifting Suspect Punched Security Guard

A 52-year-old man has been charged after a security guard in Sault Ste. Marie was attacked by a shoplifting suspect last week.

The incident happened at around 3pm at a business on Great Northern Road.

“Officers were dispatched to the business. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect already in security custody,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect pushed and punched a security guard when confronted with the fact that he left the store with items he had not paid for.”

The suspect was arrested and charged with theft and failure to comply with a probation order.

The suspect has been released on bail and is due to appear in court on September 16.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
