Victoria Embankment live updates as emergency services travel to river for water rescue

Emergency services have been called to a section of the River Trent in Nottingham after reports of a person in the water. Five fire engines and a lifeboat are at the Victoria Embankment, near the Wilford Toll Bridge.

At least three ambulances and four police cars also rushed to the incident, which was first reported at 2.10pm this afternoon (Saturday, July 20). A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the condition of the person in the water was still unclear.




The service posted on X at 3pm: “We currently have five appliances, a water rescue unit and a command support vehicle at the River Trent at the Wilford Toll Bridge following reports of a person in the water. Please avoid the area whilst we resolve this incident.”

Air ambulance spotted in area

A Nottinghamshire Live reader sent in this picture of what he described as an air ambulance that had just taken off and left the Meadows area. We have contacted Nottinghamshire Police for more information.

Nearby road blocked

A nearby road is partially blocked by emergency services as they respond to the incident. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: “Riverside Way is partially blocked in both directions, causing a tailback due to firefighting activities at Victoria Embankment.”

Avoid the area, fire department says

Nottinghamshire Fire Brigade has urged the public to avoid the area while rescuers carry out the rescue operation.

A statement issued on X at 3pm said: “We currently have five appliances, a water rescue unit and a command support vehicle at the River Trent at the Wilford Toll Bridge following reports of a person in the water. Please avoid the area while we resolve this incident.”
