Vancouver Police Ask for Help in Finding Violent Criminal

Vancouver police are appealing to the public for help locating a man who failed to return to his shelter this week.

According to Vancouver police, 42-year-old Elwood Poorman is on day release and has a history of violent crimes. His criminal record includes a September 2020 guilty plea to manslaughter, the BC Prosecution Service confirmed.

Poorman left his shelter on Tuesday and has not yet returned, as the court ordered.

Police describe Poorman as a Native American male who is 5’10” tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has short black hair, brown eyes, a tattoo of a tiger and praying hands on his left forearm and a tattoo of a cross with a rose on his left shoulder.

The VPD has not disclosed where Poorman was last seen.

Anyone who sees Poorman or knows where he is is urged to call 911.

Elwood Poorman is seen in this photo released by the Vancouver Police Department.
