1 dead after 2 separate house fires in northern Toronto

Emergency services in Toronto report that one person has died in two separate house fires in North York on Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home on Carney Road, just north of Finch Avenue West and east of Senlac Road, at 6:30 a.m.

A Toronto Fire Department spokesperson told CityNews that firefighters found part of the house on fire upon arrival.

After crews entered the home to search, the spokesperson said firefighters found a person inside. The person was brought outside and firefighters performed first aid until emergency services arrived.

A spokesperson for Toronto Paramedic Services said the person died at the scene.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire a short time later. There were no other reports of injuries or anyone inside.

Meanwhile, Toronto firefighters were called an hour earlier to a home on Finch Avenue East, near Willowdale Avenue, for a report of a house fire.

The department spokesman said firefighters went inside to search for residents but found no one. There were no reports of injuries.

They said the fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the building.

When Toronto police asked for more information about the house fires, they referred CityNews to the office of the fire chief, who was called in to investigate the cause and circumstances.

There was no immediate evidence that the two fires were related.
