Three-hour negotiation with barricaded man in Waterloo ends peacefully


It was a long afternoon in Waterloo’s university district, where police negotiated with a man they said had barricaded himself in a building for three hours.

It all started with an attack near University Avenue West and Lester Street Tuesday afternoon.

At around 2:45 p.m., the police received a report of a public order disturbance caused by a drunk man.

The man is said to have attacked someone and then barricaded himself in a nearby residential building.

At around 5:45 p.m. the man was arrested and taken to hospital for a check-up.

A 39-year-old man from Waterloo is accused of assault and vandalism.
