Waterford beats NFA in hockey

Waterford – Audrey Steward scored two goals and Waterford defeated Norwich Free Academy 3-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference field hockey match on Tuesday.

Katie Jamroga had a goal and an assist, Steward had an assist and Quinn Miller made five saves for the Lancers (6-3, 4-2). Emma Koplin had 15 saves for NFA (0-8-1, 0-6-1).

For other games:

• Izzi Ash scored twice and Fitch defeated Killingly 4-1 in an ECC match. Ada Ellis and Elia St. Louis also scored for the Falcons (7-2, 5-2).

• Westbrook/Old Lyme defeated Valley Regional 3-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Dani Marin, Bella Ziegler and Brooke Ouellette scored for Westbrook/Old Lyme (6-3, 6-2).

• Anna Lettieri scored three times and Stonington defeated Woodstock 7-0 in the CC. Bailey Simmons also scored two goals for the Bears (7-1, 6-0).

Men’s football

• Freshman Gabe Ansani scored the go-ahead goal with three minutes, 16 seconds left, leading Mitchell College to a 2-1 win over Elms in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Ansani’s second goal of the fall came on an assist from senior captain Dylan Lucey.

HS boys soccer

• Fitch defeated Norwich Free Academy 3-1. Luka Jump scored twice for the Falcons (2-8-1, 1-4), while Hayden Chappel had a goal and an assist. NFA is 2-5-2, 1-3-1.

• Wheeler defeated Tourtellotte 6-1 in an ECC Division IV match. Wyatt Hayes scored twice for the Lions (6-5, 4-1), while Drew Deary, David Levanto, Luke Noonan and Jack Signor also scored.

• Norwich Tech defeated Windham Tech 3-1 in a Connecticut Technical Conference match. Dimitri Toromanidis, Blake Weitknecht and Roman McElwee scored for Norwich Tech (7-1-1)

• Bacon Academy and Stonington played to a 1-1 tie in an ECC Division II match. With less than a minute to play, Bacon’s Troy Johnson tied the game. Zach Carroll made seven saves for the Bobcats (3-1-5, 2-0-3).

• Matt Shampine scored in the 51st minute as Waterford saw off Ledyard 1-0 in an ECC Division II match. Ben Dubicki made four saves for the Lancers (4-2-4, 1-1-2). Paulo Templeton made seven saves for Ledyard (3-3-4, 1-2-2).

HS girls cross country

•Winner Hazel DeLucia led Lyman Memorial to an 18-42 victory over St. Bernard in an ECC Diviison III match. Helena Coury, who finished third overall, led the Saints to a 24-31 victory over Wheeler.

• Maggie Littler and Kate Littler finished second and third respectively as Ledyard defeated Waterford 22-34 and Griswold 20-36. Avery Maiese won the race in 19:08 for the Lancers, who defeated Griswold 15-42 in an ECC Division II match.

• Montville picked up a pair of ECC Division III wins, defeating both Windham and Montville 15-50. The Wolves (4-2, 4-2) placed four runners in the tp 6. Evelyn Granskog was second, Anna Beauchene third, Melinda Sismets was fifth and Brenna LaBranche was sixth. Raegan Richards of Plainfield won the race with a time of 24:39.

HS cross country for boys

• Tycen LaBelle won in 16:46 and Griswold defeated Waterford 17-42 in an ECC Division II match and Ledyard 24-31. Greyson Stephenson was third overall for Ledyard, a 17-39 winner over Waterford.

• Lyman Memorial defeated St. Bernard 23-34 and Wheeler 22-36 in an ECC Division III match. Kellen Johnson finished second overall to Lyman. Trevor Scarchilli won the race for the Lions in 18:20.

• Montville defeated Plainfield 28-31 and Windham 19-41 for a pair of ECC Division III victories. Yomilex Ramirez was third and Kyler Newer fourth for the Wolves (5-1, 5-1). Owen Pothier of Plainfield won in a time of 18:41.

HS girls soccer

• Norwich Tech/Holy Family defeated New London 3-2 in a nonleague match. Darielys Arnold scored twice for the Whalers (1-6).

HS volleyball

• Coventry defeated East Lyme 3-1. Jordyn Skinner had 15 digs for the Vikings (7-1).

• Norwich Tech lost 3-1 to Killingly in a non-league match on Monday. Abby Ulrich had 10 kills and six digs, Olivia Luurtsema had 18 assists and three digs and Nyomi Baboza had eight kills and four digs for the Warriors (7-4), who lost 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 21 -25.

HS football

• New London defeated Thames River 53-16 in a game that was suspended Friday night and concluded Monday. Tyree Barnes caught four touchdown passes, returned a punt for a touchdown and made several solo tackles on defense.

Jack Philistin threw four touchdown passes for more than 30 yards and ran for more than 100 yards and a fifth touchdown. Demitias Fletcher ran for two touchdowns and more than 100 yards, Mhi’Blessin Maddox had 12 tackles and Chris Jones had 11 tackles for the Whalers (1-2).
