Minimum wage Saskatchewan: Sask still sees increase to . as lowest in Canada

Saskatchewan’s minimum wage increased to $15 as of Oct. 1. But even with the increase, the province still ranks last nationally.

The one dollar increase has tied Saskatchewan with Alberta, where the minimum wage has not increased since 2018.

Saskatchewan wasn’t alone in a planned increase. Manitoba ($15.80), Prince Edward Island ($16) and Ontario ($17.20) all continued their own increases.

In 2007, Saskatchewan’s minimum wage was $7.95. The current wage marks an increase of 89 percent.

Nunavut holds the distinction of having the highest national minimum wage at $19, while British Columbia leads the provinces at $17.40.

The increase marks the end result of a promise the Saskatchewan government made in May 2022 — when it stopped using an indexation formula and pledged to raise the province’s lowest statutory wage to $15 by October 2024.
